Do you fancy spending some time at the lake this summer? When the hot weather finally arrives you want to make the most of it. This means, getting outdoors with family and friends until sunset. And, one of the best places to do this is at the lake. It’s generally low-cost, secluded and you can often stay as long as you like. But what lake activities are there do for the whole family?

Well, in this article we’ll share four super-fun things to do on a lake. These will keep everyone entertained for hours and you won’t want to leave.

1. Swimming

Instead of paying to visit a waterpark that’s overcrowded, save your money and head to the lake.

It’s a great way to cool off, reconnect with nature and, there’s no chlorine to sting your eyes. Plus, you’ll be able to get up close to some sea life that the kids will love.

Remember that swimming is also a great exercise that is low-impact on your joints. So, you may even discover a new hobby.

2. Picnic/BBQ

No day at the lake is complete without a good old fashion picnic or cookout.

If you fancy a picnic, prepare some sandwiches and snacks in the morning and place them in a cooler to keep fresh. This way you can either all eat together, or, let people snack on them throughout the day.

Alternatively, load the grill into the trunk with a selection of food and head off. There’s nothing quite like a bbq for bonding and enjoying a few drinks whilst you cook.

Just remember to check any lake rules beforehand and ensure you clean up afterward.

3. Watersports

If you fancy some adrenaline-filled action then why not try some watersports. Lakes often have jet skis and kayaks available to hire and it’s an awesome experience.

You don’t need lessons, although some lakes may offer a safety demonstration. It’s also something that people of most ages can enjoy together.

Plus, once you’re done, you can head back for a mouthwatering bbq.

4. Sunbathing

People often head to the beach to sunbathe and relax but, the lake can be just as good if not better. This is because it’s often not as crowded and you won’t get sand in your shoes.

Pick a spot, lay some blankets down, and relax with music or a good book.

Or, if you and your party fancy something a bit different, look at buying some inflatable docks. This means you can all sunbathe together but actually on the lake itself.

The upside to this is, if it gets too hot, you can jump in for a quick cool-off.
